Workplace harassment is an important HR issue. It is reported to be on the rise in many workplaces and, if left unaddressed, can have a detrimental effect on employee wellbeing, morale and productivity, and further present reputational and legal risks for the employer.This program seeks to provide HR professionals with:

  1. An understanding of what behaviours amount to harassment under the law,
  2. An overview of an HR professional's role and legal obligations in mitigating against and addressing harassment in the workplace,
  3. Best practices on how to investigate harassment complaints, and
  4. Practical tips on how to restore the workplace to one that is free of harassment.

Speaker Bio:

Ozlem Yucel is an Associate at Turnpenney Milne LLP, where she practices in all areas of employment law. She advises and represents employers and employees on employment standards, contracts and policies, terminations and constructive dismissals, human rights, and occupational health and safety matters. She also acts as independent workplace investigator.

Prior to joining Turnpenney Milne LLP, Ozlem practiced at a pre-eminent employment law firm and articled at the Ministry of Labour and the Ontario Labour Relations Board.

Ozlem obtained her law degree from Osgoode Hall Law School and an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree (in International Relations and Political Science) from the University of Toronto, where she graduated with distinction.

Ozlem sits on the Executive of the Ontario Bar Association’s Labour and Employment Law Section, as well as the Alternative Dispute Resolution Section.
